The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary or Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) is an autonomous body incorporated under the Maharashtra Act No. 41 of 1965 and was established in the same year.
The responsibility of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education includes the duty of carrying out HSC and SSC examinations annually for the benefit of all the students of the state of Maharashtra.
These examinations are held at least twice a year and around 14.5 lakhs students apply to give the exam of the Maharashtra Board SSC and consecutively 17.5 lakhs students appear for the Maharashtra Board HSC exam, on a moderate estimate. There are over 21000 schools (SSC) and 7000 (HSC) Higher Secondary schools in the state.
The board itself harbors over 3000 and more schools, with at least 9 divisions across the state, under its jurisdiction. Its 9 divisional boards are located in the districts of Pune, Mumbai, Aurangabad, Nasik, Kolhapur, Amravati, Latur, Nagpur and Ratnagiri.
